Drop a GeoJSON file on the page, or paste it, and see it drawn on the map. Click a feature for its properties; export it as KML, GPX or CSV.
How to use it
Drop the GeoJSON file on the panel, choose it, or paste its text and press Load pasted text.
Click a feature on the map for its properties, or click a row in the table to go to it.
Export as KML, GPX or CSV, or PNG for a picture.
5 practical uses
Check a GeoJSON file from a download, an API or a GIS export.
Read the properties of features without writing code.
Convert GeoJSON to KML for Google Earth or GPX for a GPS.
Check the bounds, the length and the area of the data.
Share a picture of the data as a PNG.
The maths behind it
GeoJSON is parsed as JSON and normalised to a FeatureCollection. Lengths are the sum of haversine distances along each line; areas are geodesic areas on the ellipsoid; the bounds are the extreme coordinates. Conversion to KML and GPX rewrites the same coordinates as XML; CSV takes the centroid of lines and polygons.
About GeoJSON
GeoJSON (RFC 7946) is the plain-text format of web maps: a JSON object with a geometry in longitude-latitude order on WGS84 and any properties you like. It is what this site's other tools export. The converter turns it into KML or GPX and back.
A plain-text format for map data: points, lines and polygons in longitude-latitude order with any properties. It is what web maps and most GIS tools read and write.
Why are my colours not shown?
The viewer reads color, stroke, fill and marker-color properties. Other styling conventions are ignored and features are drawn in blue.
Can it open TopoJSON?
Yes. A TopoJSON topology is converted to GeoJSON when loaded.
Embed this tool on your website
Paste this code where the tool should appear. It shows the tool alone, without this page's text, and links back here. It is free to use; the map data credit stays on the map.
Change height to suit your page. To open the tool with a place already set, add the settings from this page's address bar (the part after #) to the end of the src. The embedded tool asks the visitor's browser for their location only when they press the button, and the allow attribute lets that work inside the frame.
