The maths behind it
The ZIP code comes from the address at the point. The table takes the great-circle distance from the point to the centre of every ZIP code (the haversine formula on a sphere of radius 6,371 km) and keeps the nearest.
How accurate it is
A phone with GPS is accurate to a few metres outdoors; a laptop on Wi-Fi is often within a hundred metres, and a wired desktop may be placed at the nearest exchange, a town away. Near a boundary, drag the pin to check. ZIP codes are delivery routes, not areas, so a ZIP code can be found on both sides of a street. The postal code from the address is the one you are in; the table lists ZIP codes by the distance to their centre point.
