Sketch on the map: points, lines and areas in the colours you choose, with labels. Save it as a file for another map, or as a picture.
How to use it
Pick a colour and a mode: point, line or area.
Click on the map. Lines and areas take a click per corner; double-click or press Enter to finish.
Give the last shape a label. Undo removes the last shape.
Save the drawing as GeoJSON, KML or GPX, or as a PNG picture.
5 practical uses
Sketch a walking route, a race course or a bike loop.
Draw property lines, a field plan or a building footprint.
Mark an area for a search, a survey or a work site.
Annotate a map for a report or a planning application.
Make a GPX route from a hand-drawn line for a GPS device.
The maths behind it
Lines and shapes are stored as lists of coordinates in longitude-latitude order, the GeoJSON convention. Lengths are the sum of the haversine great-circle distances of the segments; areas are geodesic areas on the ellipsoid. Exports keep the coordinates unchanged: KML and GPX write the same numbers in their own XML.
Yes. Open a GeoJSON, KML or GPX file from the panel; its shapes are added to the drawing.
Which format keeps the colours?
GeoJSON and KML keep colours and labels. GPX has no colours: points become waypoints and lines become tracks.
Can I move a corner after drawing?
Not yet. Undo the shape and draw it again, or edit the exported file in another tool.
Embed this tool on your website
Paste this code where the tool should appear. It shows the tool alone, without this page's text, and links back here. It is free to use; the map data credit stays on the map.
Change height to suit your page. To open the tool with a place already set, add the settings from this page's address bar (the part after #) to the end of the src. The embedded tool asks the visitor's browser for their location only when they press the button, and the allow attribute lets that work inside the frame.
